Senior Engineer Mechanical

We are looking for a candidate for the position as Senior Engineer Mechanical.

The candidate must have solid knowledge from working with rotating machinery with large gas compressors, gas turbine generators, water injection pumps and related ancillary systems.

The position reports to System Team Lead, Engineering and will be based in our office in Oslo. The position will take an active part in BW Offshore's work related to bid and feed studies, projects and technical support for our FPSOs in operation.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Take a lead in all phases of Projects from concept development, tender, bids, FEEDs, construction, commissioning, execution, modification to completion
  • Responsible for handling all mechanical equipment related to process topsides on the FPSO, including:
    • Ensure correct conceptual selection of main mechanical and rotating equipment. i.e. definition and selection of Gas compressors, Turbines etc.
    • Ensure the design meets regulatory, class, client and corporate requirements
  • Work closely with and actively support Supply Chain, Estimation, Planning and other project teams
  • Lead technical clarifications towards clients, sub suppliers, class and yard
  • Act as a mentor and resource for new employees, less experienced colleagues and consultants


  • Master’s degree in Engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree or long relevant experience may replace formal education
  • Ideally 10+ years of relevant experience within the shipping and offshore industry
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience within the FPSO industry
  • Solid rotating machinery experience with large gas centrifugal compressors, reciprocating, screw compressors, gas turbine generators, process pumps including large water injection pumps is required
  • Knowledge of machinery ancillary support mechanism including mechanical seals, seal gas systems and other associated systems is required
  • Experience with Static equipment like pressure vessels, heat exchangers like shell & tube and plate/frame will be advantageous

  • Proactive and able to work independently, applying a structured and systematic approach
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to ask relevant questions and provide thorough explanations
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary/multinational environment
  • Knowledge of other process equipment like vacuum pumps etc will be advantageous


  • Understand the various engineering disciplines and their interaction
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the FPSO topside process systems
  • Good knowledge of the different process equipment
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)


  • The position may require temporary assignments at project premises or on board units
  • The position may require heavy travel and long working hours during peak periods
