Sr. Drilling Engineer

This is an open position for BW Energy USA Management, Inc.  BW Energy isa growth-focused oil and gas company involved in the acquistion, development, and production of proven oil and natural gas fields, and currently holds majority interests in three hydrocarbon licenses in Gabon, Brazil, and Namibia.  BW Energy is represented in all major oil and gas regions world-wide in Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe.  BW Energy has its beginnings as the E&P arm of Oslo-listed BW Offshore.


Responsibility and authority

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure drilling operations are properly planned, executed and reported.
  • Efficient planning of drilling operations to meet the HS&E, regulatory, technical and financial objectives.
  • Interface with asset team during the well planning process and ensure that the well objectives are fully understood and conveyed to all drilling personnel involved in the projects.
  • Develop schedule for design, procurement, and execution of drilling activities.
  • Responsible for detailed well design and casing design to meet international standards and regulatory requirements. Oversee pore pressure and geomechanics studies to support well design.
  • Specify equipment and service requirements for drilling and deliver tender documents for contracting process. Provide technical input into the tender and contracting process. Manage contracted suppliers throughout the contracts to ensure proper oversight.
  • Deliver detailed time and cost estimates for operations and benchmark against other operations.
  • Lead cost reduction initiatives to improve project economics.
  • Provide input to drilling department manpower planning for operations positions.
  • Establish logistics plans for operations, including materials, support base, helicopters, airfields and supply vessel requirements.
  • Provide input to company’s operational safety management systems and integrity management systems.
  • Provide input to environmental studies, emergency response plans, risk assessments and overall permitting process.
  • Deliver detailed planning documents, which highlight costs and risks associated with the well operations.
  • Lead drilling peer reviews within the organization for Brazil operations.
  • Deliver detailed drilling programs.
  • Interface with suppliers and materials and logistics support to ensure the timely and efficient arrival of well equipment in Brazil, and on the rig-site.
  • Interface with contracted third-party drilling service suppliers to ensure the use of fit-for purpose equipment and techniques are utilised on the project.
  • Engage with vendors to develop bridging documents for the well operations. 
  • Plan and lead Drill Well on Paper sessions with company, service providers and partners prior to operations. Ensure improvements are implemented into drilling programs for execution.
  • Ensure regulatory reporting for drilling operations is fulfilled.
  • Monitor drilling performance, including costs and operational indicators, and report these on a daily basis during well operations. 
  • Maintain drilling lessons learned and ensure future operations implement lessons.
  • Prepare the final well report at the end of the drilling operations.
  • Represent company in industry organizations regarding operations, best practices, and regulations.
  • Represent company with regulators for operations such as IBAMA and ANP.
  • Evaluate potential asset acquisitions and provide engineering and time and cost estimates to support business development.
  • Monitor business intelligence media (Rigs, OFS and E&P business) to gather insights for BWE operations
  • Occasional visits to the rigsite and shorebase.
  • Other duties as reasonably requested.
