Head of Supply Chain

This is an open position for BW Energy USA Management, Inc.  BW Energy is a growth-focused oil and gas company involved in the acquisition, development, and production of proven oil and natural gas fields, and currently holds majority interest in three hydrocarbon licenses in Gabon, Brazil, and Namibia.  BW Energy is represented in all major oil and gas regions world-wide in Africa, the Amercias, Asia, and Europe.  BW Energy has its beginnings as the E&P arm of Oslo listed BW Offshore.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

The Head of Supply Chain, BWE has the responsibility for all Supply Chain activities pertaining to Global Exploration and Production (E&P) activities (project and operation) and collaborating with Head of Supply Chain, BWO to maximize value and minimize risk to BW Energy.  Internal clients include the BW Energy projects and operational functions. Major contributors and supporters include technical, legal and commercial functions.

Functional responsibilities include:

  • Manage E&P, Subsea installation, Marine and Logistic contracting and material management activities for all required goods and services according to agreed schedules and in accordance with the relevant practices, procedures and standards published in the Company Management System and the established Contracting Plans, whilst maximizing value and minimizing risk to BW Energy
  • Maximize value to BW Energy by developing relevant procurement strategies related to preferential supply agreements (e.g. frame agreements, master service agreements), volume discounts, resupply or re-stocking agreements, etc.
  • Develop Total Cost of Ownership and/or Life Cycle Cost models for relevant categories to drive value focus when making capital investments
  • Maintain an overview of relevant suppliers and contractors
  • Maintain good on-going relations with critical E&P vendors, suppliers and contractors. Develop relevant and individual Supplier Relationship Management strategies with input from other relevant functions
  • Update and improve relevant contracting, material management and VQ practices, procedures and standards published in the Company Management System
  • Provide leadership for the complete BWE project and operational SC function and assigned staff
  • Develop supply chain strategy for BWE and ensure that the BWE SC organisation is capable to deliver on current and future requirements
  • Allocate relevant resources to BWE projects and operation as agreed with responsible parties.  This to be done in coordination with the Head of SC BWO to ensure optimization of already existing functions and resources
  • Manage, train, monitor and drive the performance of the staff ensuring their career development
  • Support cost estimating and controller functions in obtaining budgetary estimates for goods and services
  • Drive communications related to supply chain service matters to Clients, Owners, Suppliers, Support services, Project Teams and Operations Teams
  • Drive Vendor qualification and Vendor performance management activities in collaboration with Finance, OI, Corporate Integrity and AEM
  • Ensure VQ activities are executed in a timely manner to avoid interruption and delays to supply chain activities
  • In collaboration with BWO Supply Chain Business Process Manager, drive and manage development and improvement of procedures and IT platform to streamline, automate and drive efficiencies in Supply Chain process
  • In collaboration with Corporate Integrity, HC and Legal function, immediately investigate and police any indication of possible unethical activities whether directly or indirectly associated with BWE procurement and supply activities
  • Other tasks assigned

Qualification Requirements


  • Master’s or Bachelor degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Law or other relevant major
  • Long relevant experience may compensate for formal education


  • Ideally 10 years of purchasing and supply chain management or related activities for major industrial projects of which at least 5 years within the offshore industry. E&P experience will be preferred
  • International and multi-cultural experience will be preferred

The Head of Supply Chain, BWE must have a good understanding and knowledge of many, if not all, of the following: 

  • In depth knowledge of supply chain, procurement and contracting functions
  • In depth understanding of commercial and contractual issues related to the procurement of E&P goods and the contracting of engineering, construction, drilling and completion services
  • A good understanding of financing linked to TCO/LCC and demand/supply modelling
  • A good understanding of project management of major industrial and E&P projects
  • A basic understanding of technical aspects of offshore projects in general and E&P projects in particular 
  • Experienced in Vendor Qualification activities
  • Fluent in English (oral and written)


  • The position will entail substantial travel to other main company locations as well as to the various project sites
  • The individual will need to be flexible and resilient to be successful
