Instrument Engineer

BW Offshore is looking for an experienced Instrument Engineer to join our Asset, Engineering and Maintenance (AEM) team. The successful candidate will actively contribute, and provide technical and advisory support to, the Offshore Management Team in regard to instrumentation and control systems and relevant regulatory requirements. reporting to the Engineering Manager – Asset Operations.  

This position is an onshore position and will be based in Darwin, Northern Territory.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, specification, and technical evaluation of control systems, field instruments, and safety systems.
  • Monitor the production of detailed designs, drawings, specifications, data sheets, sizing, calculations, and technical reports for instrumentation and control systems.
  • Review and provide the engineering solutions for Management of Change Request from Facilities as per procedure.
  • Ensure adherence to industry standards in cyber security and functional safety, particularly in relation to PLC, DCS, SIS and Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems.
  • Review the Shutdown / Breakdown Reports and verify / carry out Root Cause Analysis
  • Develop and manage the selection, sizing, and specification of instruments, as well as the preparation of relevant documentation such as datasheets, RFQs, Bills of Materials (BOM), etc.
  • Contribute to the engineering team's efforts to maintain technical assurance and documentation integrity across the assets’ life cycle, from design through to handover and operation.
  • Conduct and support risk assessments, reviews, and compliance with safety standards during project design and operations.
  • Participate in key project reviews (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP, constructability, and safety in design workshops) related to Barossa project.
  • Support Technical Maintenance and Operations Support teams, as and when required, including visiting the Unit as needed for technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Monitor on a continuous basis that the unit performs within the relevant performance standards.

Qualifications

  • You will hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, electronics engineering or similar.
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) preferred but not essential.
  • 8 years+ experience in instrumentation and control systems design, technical and operations support.
  • Previous offshore/FPSO experience through conceptual design, commissioning and operational support.  
  • In-depth knowledge of applicable Australian and Internation standards and regulatory requirements.
